Jane Mulcahy, a British woman, got a divorce. She then filed suit against her attorneys, asserting that they had engaged in professional negligence.
One of the claims was that her lawyers failed to adequately explain to her that going through the divorce process would end her marriage–apparently, a result she did not want. Mulcahy went on to assert that the lawyers should have recognized her religious beliefs as a Roman Catholic and should accordingly have advised her to obtain a legal separation, and not a divorce.
After the trial court dismissed her claim, Mulcahy appealed. The appeal was also dismissed.
