An Italian man named Antonio was looking through an old chest a few days before Christmas of 2011. He discovered some old love letters that had been written by his wife, Rosa, to a man with whom she had had an affair during the 1940s.
Antonio confronted Rosa about the letters and she confessed to the affair. Furious, Antonio demanded divorce. Over his wife’s objections, he went ahead and filed.
The divorce marked a record for the oldest divorcee. At the time of filing, Antonio was 99 years-old. Rosa was 96. The couple had been married for 77 years and had 5 children together.
The previous record was set by a British couple in 2009, who were each 98 at the time of their divorce filing.
