The Arizona State Bar recently issued an opinion disbarring former Maricopa County Attorney, Andrew Thomas. After a lengthy hearing, the panel reviewing the case found that Thomas had used his political position to initiate unfounded criminal investigations and indictments against his political enemies in the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. The panel also disbarred a deputy county attorney, Lisa Aubuchon. Thomas later announced that he will not be appealing the case, however, Aubuchon has filed a notice of appeal.
Thomas was later quoted as saying, “Though I have suffered a grave injustice, this sacrifice was not in vain. I promise, before God and my community, to seek reforms so that the powerful and corrupt are no longer above the law.”
