Chilean officials will soon unseal the last will and testament of Augusto Pinochet.
Augusto Pinochet was formerly ruler of Chile. He assumed power in 1973 by way of a coup d’etat. During his reign he acquired significant wealth through a number of illegal methods.
In 2006, he assembled a last will and testament. The document has been sealed since the time of its execution. It is significant in that no one is entirely certain exactly how much money Pinochet amassed during his lifetime and the will should provide some insight.
Although the contents of the will must remain private under Chilean law, a representative of the state will be present in the hope that the government will be able to recover monies to which Pinochet was never entitled.
